  1. What a Great IDEA! A Brief Overview of Special Education for Parents and Families
    Understand the basics of Special Education and the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA). This course will explain how the process of special education works, including Child Find, making a referral; what to expect from an evaluation; how to prepare for an Individualized Education Program (IEP) meeting and how to resolve disputes. (Approved for 1 CEU for eligible BCW staff)
  2. Peace, Love, Harmony and the IFSP/IEP?
    Learn how to use effective communication skills to develop a partnership with your child’s IEP/IFSP team. Get tips for preparing for school meetings and how to be an effective member of the team. (Approved for 1 CEU for eligible BCW staff)
  3. Sifting Through Your Parental Rights
    Provides basic information about parental rights under IDEA, including confidentiality, notice, consent, surrogate parents, free and appropriate public education (FAPE), least restrictive environment (LRE), evaluations and dispute resolution methods such as mediation and due process. (Approved for 1 CEU for eligible BCW staff)
  4. I Can Do That! A Brief Overview of Assistive Technology for Parents and Families
    This training will introduce parents of school-age children to assistive technology devices and services; help them determine what assistive technology (AT) their child might need to overcome barriers and achieve their goals, and locate sources for AT. (Approved for 1 CEU for eligible BCW staff)
  5. I Want to Do That! An Overview of Assistive Technology for Parents and Families of Young Children with Special Needs
    This training will introduce parents of preschool-age children to assistive technology devices and services; help them determine what assistive technology (AT) their child might need to overcome barriers and achieve their goals; and locate sources for AT. (Approved for 1 CEU for eligible BCW staff)
  6. The Big IDEA! What’s the Big IDEA Behind Inclusion?
    Learn about inclusion, its benefits and how IDEA with its requirement of least restrictive environment can be a springboard to having children with disabilities learn with their peers. (Approved for 1 CEU for eligible BCW staff)
  7. Making It Count – Focusing on a Vision and Strengths to Get to Measurable Goals
    This workshop discusses the IEP process and how to write meaningful goals that help your child reach his/her full potential. (Approved for 1 CEU for eligible BCW staff)
  8. Understanding the School Discipline Process Through IDEA and IEPs
    Learn about functional behavioral assessment (FBA), behavior intervention plans (BIP) and how to be proactive in addressing behavior in your child’s IEP. (Approved for 1 CEU for eligible BCW staff)
  9. Attendance – Why does it matter?
    Every school day counts. This presentation includes understanding the importance of student attendance whether they are in pre-school, middle school or high school. Learn some tips and suggestions on how to overcome the obstacles related to regular attendance.
  10. Beyond the Basics…Unlocking Ambitious IEP Goals
    This session includes an in depth look at the various components of an IEP and how to develop ambitious IEP goals for your child.
  1. Georgia Medicaid Basics and overview of Home and Community-Based Services
    Learn about Medicaid programs and services, including how to qualify for Medicaid based on a child’s disability or chronic health condition (Katie Becket Deeming Waiver). This course will include information on EPSDT, GAPP, SOURCE, CCSP, ICWP, and the NOW and COMP waivers. (Approved for 1 CEU for eligible BCW staff)
  2. Georgia Medicaid Home and Community-Based Services-NOW/COMP Waivers
    Learn about Home and Community-Based Services specifically about the NOW/COMP waivers. This course will include information about the eligibility requirements, the services covered, how to apply and types of service delivery. (Approved for 1 CEU for eligible BCW staff)
  3. Georgia Medicaid Basics and Care Management Organizations (CMOs)
    Learn about Medicaid services. Participants will also learn how to be effective advocates when they have Medicaid services administered by one of the following Care Management Organizations: Peach State Health Plan, CareSource or Amerigroup Community Care. (Approved for 1 CEU for eligible BCW staff)
  4. Georgia Medicaid Basics and Katie Beckett Deeming Waiver Learn about Medicaid programs and services, specifically about the Katie Beckett Deeming Waiver. This course will include information about the eligibility requirements, how to apply and if denied, the appeals process. (Approved for 1 CEU for eligible BCW staff)
  1. Movin’ Up – Planning Your Child’s Successful Transition at Age 3
    Prepare and plan for a smooth transition from Babies Can’t Wait/early intervention. The presentation includes key to successful transition, options to consider during transition, and an overview of various programs and services that may be available for three year olds with special needs in your community.     Learn the keys to successful transition, the role of the school in transition planning and things to consider when planning your child’s transition to adulthood.

    This training will discuss the employer’s perspective, the current employment outlook for people with disabilities, workplace accommodations and practical tips for families to help their teen get a job.
  4. The Big Leap…..Moving from Elementary to Middle School
    Learn the keys to successful transition and practical tips on what you can do to help your child smoothly transition to this new milestone.
  5. Crossing the Medical Bridge-Transition to Adult Healthcare
    Learn what health has to do with transition; who makes up the transition team and their roles, healthcare financing, legal issues and timelines.
