Reading Strategies

What are you doing at home to support your child as a reader.

Teacher and Student In A Classroom At School
  • Does your child read every day?
  • Is reading a part of your child’s daily routine (e.g., each night before bedtime, child reads to parent or parent reads a book to their child)?
  • Does your child have a variety of books that connect to his or her interests, hobbies, history, or real-life experiences?
  • Does your child engage in activities such as playing games, visiting parks, museums, exhibits, listening to podcasts and audiobooks to learn new words, letters, or sounds and expand their vocabulary?
  • Do you talk to your child about their school day, about what they see on a walk or drive, about their interests, about a movie watched together, about the news, about anything, really?
