Faye Capers, Kori’s Mother writes:
Kori started receiving SSI when he was about 14 years of age. He graduated from Douglas High School in 1997. Upon Graduation, he started going to Central Training Center which is a part of the Fulton County System. They automatically applied for the waiver at that time for him. He was on the waiting list from 1999 until 2011 when I requested emergency residential services because at the time, I was taking care of my grandmother and my mother in my home. Medicaid, especially the COMP Waiver which he received has been very helpful in getting Kori the support and services that he needs to be active and involved in the community. I currently self-direct Kori’s services because I was actually curious as to the difference in self-direction and agency driven services. Since June of 2012, Kori’s services have been self-directed. The possibilities are endless because we are actually able to create different possibilities for him to be supported in the community.
