P2P began it’s statewide Impact Awards to recognize individuals working in schools and communities to improve the lives of individuals with disabilities. Our Navigator Project, in collaboration with the agencies of the Parent Leadership Coalition, was recognized as a Project of National Significance by the Administration on Developmental Disabilities. The agency was awarded a 5-year Family Support 360 grant to provide intensive services to targeted families across the state.
Parent to Parent of Georgia collaborated with Easter Seals in its Champions for Children initiative to provide financial relief to families denied the Katie Beckett Waiver. A new look for the agency was unveiled, with an updated logo, new outreach materials, and a website re-design. A statewide training program was introduced!
The organization was awarded two federal grants: the Family to Family Health Information Center and the Parent Training and Information Center grants. With the roll out in the summer and fall respectively, Parent to Parent nearly tripled in size!
Parent to Parent partnered with the Georgia Council on Developmental Disabilities, formerly the Governor’s Council on Developmental Disabilities, to hire a full-time Navigator Team Coordinator and the project expanded to an additional 10 counties!
The organization expanded its statewide presence, establishing offices in Albany and Rome, and took a leading role in organizing the first Parent Leadership Coalition Navigator Teams.
Parent to Parent implemented an online pictorial, consumer-friendly “Roadmap to Services.” The Roadmap was and is wildly successful!
A partnership with the Goizueta Foundation enabled the Spanish Peer Support Project to expand to rural counties with a more comprehensive translation and interpretation services.
Parent to Parent’s database applications were recognized by TechBridge’s Advancing Community Through Technology (ACTT) award as being one of the top three most innovative uses of technology by a Georgia nonprofit agency.
Parent to Parent collaborated with Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta to promote healthcare insurance coverage for all families with children with disabilities. AND the Spanish Parent Project began expanding the Parent Support Model to parents whose primary language is Spanish.
The organization proudly announced the completion of a two-year project…the Parent to Parent Resource Directory available on the Internet (The Special Needs Database).
Parent to Parent hosted the International Parent to Parent Conference in Atlanta. The conference provided an opportunity for parents, family members, and people with disabilities to come together and learn how best to support individuals with disabilities and their families. More than 1,000 parents, family members and professionals attended.
Parent to Parent faced it’s first real threat to its funding. The Governor’s redirection of 5% of the Department of Human Resources (DHR) budget caused DHR to recommend complete elimination of our program services. Parent to Parent supporters rallied and all funding was restored.
Parent to Parent began providing a statewide directory of information to all people of all ages with developmental disabilities.
Parent to Parent was established as the Statewide Early Intervention Resource Directory for services to infants and toddlers identified as having developmental delays (The Babies Can’t Wait Central Directory).
Parent to Parent developed a database of resources and information.
Parent to Parent became a private nonprofit organization, the only network in Georgia that supported the emotional needs of parents whose children experience all types of disabilities.
Parent to Parent of Georgia started as a three-year project of the Georgia Council on Developmental Disabilities, formerly the Governor’s Council on Developmental Disabilities, to provide emotional support to parents of children with disabilities.
