Mission

star4bulletTaking It Personally - Understanding the legislative process in Georgia and advocating effectively on behalf of yourself, your family and your loved ones

(originally offered 11/29/12)

Presenter: Patricia Nobbie, Deputy Director, Georgia Council on Developmental Disabilities (GCDD) & Leslie Hale, Master in Public Administration candidate at UGA and Intern at GCDD

Legislators rely on their constituents (that's you!) to help them understand the impact of proposed and signed legislation. Because of this, parents of individuals with disabilities and the individuals themselves are their own most effective advocates. Presenters will provide an overview of Georgia's policy process and explain how parents and individuals can effectively communicate with their state legislators, particularly through the use of personal stories. It might seem daunting at first, but armed with a few key tips, you can become a force for positive change on behalf of yourself, your loved ones, and individuals with disabilities all over the state of Georgia.

Running time: 64 minutes.

(For project evaluation purposes, Parent to Parent of Georgia may email webinar viewers a brief follow-up survey in 3-6 months.)
